The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
